Choosing a Sponsor

In preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, candidates are asked to select a person in their life who demonstrates proper Catholic values and morals to be their Sponsor.  

Candidataes, in selecting a Confirmation sponsor, the following criteria must be met:

1. The person inspires you and is a model of living his or her faith.
2. The person is at least 16 years of age.
3. The person is not your mother or father.

The person is Catholic, has been confirmed, and has received Holy Communion; a baptized person who is non-Catholic may serve as your sponsor along with a Catholic sponsor.

In the Called to Mercy section entitled: Who Models Faith for You? candidates are asked to complete a reflective exercise in order to guide their choice of Sponsor.  Candidates are then asked to complete the following question, Who will serve as your sponsor for Confirmation, and what is one way this person inspires you and is a model of faith for you? and submit their answer via the submit section within the module.  This information is part of their documentation when receiving the sacrament of Confirmation and must be submitted PRIOR to December 1st.
