"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, naked and you clothes me, ill and you cared for me" (Matthew 26: 35-36)
All parishes in the Archdiocese received a letter from Cardinal Sean asking for help with the growing immigrant crisis in Massachusetts. In that letter, Cardinal Sean outlines a dire situation for the immigrants and their families. There are over 7,000 families already here and more on the way. With cold weather approaching, there is an acute need for two types of items. First, winter clothing for men, women and children. Second, there is also a huge need for personal hygiene items.
Between our two churches, we have just created the Walpole Collaborative Immigrant Support Committee to help lead an effort to collect these items and explore ways that we can be a part of longer term solutions for immigrants in our area. We are partnering with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, who will funnel all that we are able to donate to this effort joining other churches from across the Diocese.
And we will have a second bin for personal hygiene items - diapers, baby wipes, toothbrushes (adult and children sizes), toothpaste, soap, deodorant, mouthwash, combs, lotion, shampoo, washcloths and Kleenex tissues. Please DO NOT drop off personal hygiene items in the parking lot bins.
In addition, the Dedham Refugee Collaborative has organized a drop off for new or gently used baby strollers for the local refugee population on Saturday, November 11, from 12-2pm. Strollers may be dropped off, rain or shine, at the St. Mary parking lot (205 Washington Street, East Walpole– across the street from St. Mary Church).
